MY COLUMBINE BOOK
A LASTING IMPRESSION ON THE WORLD
The Definitive Account of Columbine and Its Aftermath
To be published by Dutton (Penguin/Putnam) in 2007. It developed from five years covering the tragedy, culminating in my Slate story: The Depressive and the Psychopath.
The book profiles the killers, Eric Harris & Dylan Klebold, lays out their motives, and conveys the tragedy's impact on their community. It features the analysis of several of the world's leading psychologists, and the FBI's lead investigator, Dwayne Fuselier.

'Brokeback' Mountain'
8 Nominations – 3 Oscars
Best Picture – Best Director – Best Actor
Best Supporting Actor – Best Supporting Actress
Best Screenplay Adaptation – Best Cinematography
Best Original Score
Congratulations to Ang Lee, Gustavo Santoalalla, Diana Ossana and Larry McMurtry! Gratitude to E. Annie Proulx, Heath Ledger, Jake Gyllenhall, Michelle Williams, Anne Hathaway, Roberta Maxwell and all the cast and crew of BBM.
Brokeback Mountain launched right in the heart of that first big window of heavy activity/publicity, platforming in three cities on December 9, and expanding in the wake of the first awards rounds on December 16. It continued to expand through the Oscars nomination and final balloting, providing maximum credibility and publicity as Brokeback Mountain cracked the Red States.

BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN: BEST DRAMATIC FILM – BEST DIRECTOR
BEST SCREENPLAY – BEST SONG
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association hosted its 63rd annual Golden Globe awards ceremony on January 16. 'Brokeback Mountain' walked away with four important wins.
Brokeback Mountain dominated the Golden Globe noms with seven: nominations for everybody except Jake Gyllenhaal (ouch!). The next most nominated film was Good Night, Good Luck with only four. Interestingly, most of the big-contender films snubbed.
